MONEDAS, or why the bus system is going to make me fat

Don't get me wrong; now that I can use the colectivos, I think they're great. From almost any point A, there is a convenient bus that can take you to almost any point B. But bus tickets can only be bought with coins. And while in the States my wallet constantly fills with change that I unload on disgruntled Starbucks employees when it gets too heavy, I never ever have enough change here. Colectivos make coins not just useful but necessary.

So why will this make me fat? The anwer: kioscos. On nearly every block, there's a kiosco where one can buy candy, phone cards, and not much more. So when I find myself changeless on my way to take a bus, there is only one way to acquire monedas. Simply asking for change is a no-go because everyone else needs theirs as badly as I do. Therefore, if I start expanding, I will blame not the white bread that is served everywhere, not the delicious steak, not the helado: it's the bus system, damn it. It's not my fault.

  1. This is such an amazing justification. I am going to have to work on one of those for myself.....

All I have going right now is that I like dessert and it is clear whose fault that is.

  2. do i recognize a weisbuch behind that dessert comment? if so- well, at least all three of us love desserts and sweets so uncontrollably because to tell you the truth, the only way i can ever remember how to spell 'dessert' is that 'desert' has one 's' and 'dessert' has two because i always want two desserts. thank god for our consistency in dessert-loving, then, because otherwise i wouldn't know how to spell.

becca i just wanted to say hi and let you know i am thoroughly enjoying your blog and imagining you as the perfect traveler/study abroad student, taking in everything and sharing and seeing and loving and being. my sister is also abroad, and so just today i made an account so i can common on both of your blogs, but i think i am going to change the display name (from my first initial and middle name, which is indecipherable combined and is actually the name of a far0ff star, i looked it up, it's a yellowish orange star) to AVIVA so its nice and clear.
